Tools and Materials Needed
- Tools: Drill, saw, measuring tape, level, chalk line, screwdriver, rubber mallet.
- Materials: Composite cladding boards, starter trims, corner trims, joists or battens, screws, fasteners, and spacers.
1. Preparation
A. Plan and Measure
- Measure the wall area to determine the quantity of cladding boards and trims needed.
- Identify the starting point and mark reference lines with a level and chalk.
B. Prepare the Wall
- Ensure the wall is clean, dry, and structurally sound.
- For masonry walls, install a breathable waterproof membrane to protect against moisture.
- Fix vertical battens to the wall at intervals of 400mm–600mm, ensuring they are level and aligned.
2. Installing the Starter Trim
- Fix the starter trim at the base of the wall using screws.
- Ensure the trim is level as it will guide the first row of cladding boards.
3. Installing Cladding Boards
- First Board: Fit the first cladding board into the starter trim, ensuring it clicks securely in place. Fasten the board to the battens using hidden fasteners or screws through the pre-drilled grooves.
- Subsequent Boards: Stack the next board above the previous, aligning grooves for seamless fit. Maintain an expansion gap of 3–5mm between boards using spacers. Repeat the process until the wall is covered.
4. Corners and Edges
- Corner Trims: Attach corner trims at external and internal corners for a polished finish. Ensure they align neatly with the cladding boards.
- Edge Trims: Install edge trims along the sides for a professional appearance. Secure them to the battens or wall using screws.
5. Finishing Touches
- Inspect all boards for alignment and secure fasteners.
- Clean the surface with a soft cloth and mild soap to remove dust or debris.
- Dispose of any off-cuts or packaging responsibly.
Tips for a Successful Installation
- Allow boards to acclimatize for 24–48 hours before installation.
- Use a fine-tooth blade for cutting boards to prevent chipping.
- Ensure proper ventilation behind the cladding to avoid moisture buildup.
