Instructions

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Underlay material (foam, rubber, cork, or felt)
  • Utility knife or scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Straightedge or ruler
  • Duct tape or underlay tape
  • Broom or vacuum cleaner
  • Optional: moisture barrier (if required)

Step 1: Prepare the Subfloor

  • Choose the Right Barrier:
  • Lay the Barrier:

Step 3: Lay Out the Underlay

  1. Unroll the Underlay:

Step 4: Secure the Underlay

  • Tape the Seams:
  • Fix to the Floor:

Step 5: Continue Across the Room

  • Repeat the process:
  • Ensure all underlay is smooth and free of wrinkles or bubbles.

Step 6: Trim Excess Material

  • Once all underlay is installed, trim any excess material along the perimeter of the room.
  • Leave a small gap (about 1/4 inch) around the edges for flooring expansion.

Step 7: Inspect the Installation

  • Walk across the underlay to ensure it’s secure and level.
  • Correct any areas where the underlay might have shifted or bunched up.

Step 8: Install Flooring

  • Proceed with the installation of your chosen flooring material (e.g., laminate, hardwood, or carpet) over the underlay as per manufacturer’s instructions.
